JMA Tokyo, Japan, 29-30 June 2006 First Session of the Working Group on NEAR-GOOS Data Management How to find the best way to include chemical and biological data to NEAR-GOOS ? (Russia)
1. To define current status of chemical and biological observations and related DBs in the region – NG DM WG Action: • Finalization of regional activity reviews and inventory of potentially available data Resources: • International/national/departmental programs implementation • NOWPAP/DINRAC and PICES metadata bases • NOWPAP/DINRAC Reports
Example of resource (NOWPAP) • The report should provide a review of the current status of data and information systems…: • 5.1 Brief of data collection and observation on coastal and marine biodiversity • brief of institutions /organizations collecting biological data and information (name, address, telephone, fax, e-mail, website URL, main activity) • data observation system • data collection methods • data types and amounts • 5.2 Data and information products related to coastal and marine biodiversity • reports, atlas, CD-ROM and other publications or brochures in electronic and printed visions • software’s and their application • taxonomic database for species (title, time period and update frequency, coverage, storage location, accessibility and access method, URL, etc.) • database for marine functional ecosystems (title, time period and update frequency, coverage, storage location, accessibility and access method, URL, etc.) • database for literature on marine species and biodiversity (title, time period and update frequency, coverage, storage location, accessibility and access method, URL, etc.) NATIONAL REPORT ON MARINE AND COASTAL BIODIVERSITY DATA AND INFORMATION
Institutional chemical and biological data POI: O2, PH, Alk, Sil, N-ite, N-ate, Ph-te, DIC, pCO2, Chem. contaminants … Chlor-a, Phyto/Zooplankton, Prim. prod… FERHRI: O2, PH, Alk, Sil, N-ite, Ph-te, Chem. contaminants Macro/Zoobenthos TINRO-Centre: O2, PH, Alk, Sil, N-ite, N-ate, Ph-te, Chem. contaminants… Fisheries/biological… Others: (IMB FEBRAS, SakhNIRO)…?
2. To discuss benefits, potentialities and means of Member countries for participation in the data exchange -Co-ordinating Committee (CC) for NEAR-GOOS 3. To analyze reasons why NEAR-GOOS DBs of some countries are not working well – CC & NG DM WG 4. To agree and declare obligations of eachcountry/concerned organizations to open access to the data (all kinds of data)- CC for NEAR-GOOS
5. To define and agree mechanism of data flows from originators to users through national NEAR-GOOS DBs – CC & NG DM WG 6. To issue new Agreements and MoUs between countries and leading organizations
