  2. Heifer International pays it forward! • We can give a hungry family the means to feed themselves. Each family must do two things to receive help. • 1. They must learn how to use their new animal to help feed themselves. • 2. They must give the animals first offspring to another hungry person in their village. • We can send animals to feed the hungry!

  3. A Heifer costs $500.00 • A cow makes 6-8 gallons of milk every day. • The family can make butter and use the milk and sell the extra to make money to pay for things like shoes.

  4. Who provides milk? • After cows have calves they can also be used for their meat. • A family can develop a whole herd for milk and meat. • They can use the cow manure to help grow a garden!

  5. Water Buffalo costs $250.00 • In some cultures the water buffalo is treated like we treat cows. • They can be milked, and used to pull carts or plows. • Their manure is also used to fertilize the soil and grow healthy vegetables and fruits!

  6. A Goat costs $120.00 • Goats are smaller than cows and easier to manage. • Many people use the meat from goats. • They make great milk and many of us love Goat Cheese! • Goats are funny animals that will eat anything. They are very curious and brave!

  7. A pig costs $120.00 • You may think pigs are dirty and ugly….but you are wrong. • Pigs are grown for their meat mostly. • They grow fast and they eat left over scraps!

  8. A sheep costs $120.00 • Sheep produce wool which can be made into warm clothes and sold to help families make money. • They don’t eat much, they can graze even in rocky areas where there is not much growing!

  9. A flock of chicks costs $20.00 • Chickens grow fast. • They make lots of eggs which can be eaten or hatched into more chickens. • We use their feathers.

  10. A flock of geese costs $20.00 • Geese produce eggs • They eat insects and bugs and their droppings fertilize the garden • They can be eaten • They are like watch dogs -- WATCH GEESE!!

  11. A flock of ducks costs $20.00 • Did you know that in China duck catch fish for their masters? • They give eggs, can be eaten, fertilize the garden, and eat weeds and bugs!

  12. A hive of bees costs $30.00 • Bees pollinate our crops • Make Honey • Make Beeswax • They are easy to maintain.

  13. Trees cost $60.00 • Trees are the lungs of our planet! • Trees help hold the soil in place. • They shade and cool the earth, too! • They help families keep their land healthy.

  14. Cost of Rabbits $60.00 • Rabbits multiply quickly! • They can be eaten • Their manure can be used directly without composting on the garden. • Rabbits eat grass and things like carrot tops.

  15. How Westmeade can Help • At the end of the day maybe your parents have some change in their pockets that they could give you to add to our penny drive. • You could do chores and earn money to put in the jar. • When you spend your allowance you could save your change and add it to the jar!
