Collection of data on sex or gender should be sensitive to the needs of trans people so that they: • Are clear about what is being asked; • Do not find the question wording or answer offensive; • Are given appropriate answer options to allow them to respond as they wish, including a suitably-worded third category; • Can feel confident that their responses will remain confidential.
