  2. Collecting data on gender reassignment is a very sensitive area. The challenge EHRC took is to demonstrate that it is possible to develop and test survey questions that can be understood and answered by all people Conference of Gender Statisticians

Collection of data on sex or gender should be sensitive to the needs of trans people so that they: • Are clear about what is being asked; • Do not find the question wording or answer offensive; • Are given appropriate answer options to allow them to respond as they wish, including a suitably-worded third category; • Can feel confident that their responses will remain confidential.
