  11. Angels have free will Angels are intelligent viable beings. o They made a choice long ago to serve God or follow lucifer.

They rejoice over the salvation of man: Lu. 15:10, "Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of god over one sinner that repenteth." Angels learn from man: I Cor. 4:9 indicates that we are examples to them in some way. That is scary if you think about it. Just when are you teaching them something? Are they watching when you step into sin? I assume that they can be watching at any time. This should move us to more righteous living! Eph. 3:10 tells us that men have knowledge that the angels do not have.

  14. nIt may be that angels are involved in our lives much more than we realize. “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed” (Gal. 1:8). Paul warns, “Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels...” (Col. 2:18).

  15. A. Angels are REAL Over 300 direct references to angels in the Bible. B. Angels were created by God in the dateless past (Col. 1:16). C. Angels are ministering spirits (Heb. 1:7), and invisible (2 Kings 6:13-17). However, they can take human form (Heb. 13:2 Lot had no idea that the two “men” who met him at the gate of Sodom were angels. He washed their feet, and fed them.) D. Angels are powerful (Ps. 103:20) E. Angels are innumerable (Heb. 12:22) F. Angels are masculine. There is not one female angel in the whole Bible. G. Angels are inferior to God, but superior to man. However, in the kingdom, man will judge angels (1 Cor. 6:2-3).

  16. 1Co 6:2-3 Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? If the world is judged by you, are you not competent toconstitute the smallest law courts? (3) Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more matters of this life?

  17. A. Angels are primarily “messengers.” In our text, angels are also ‘watchers’ of human affairs. B. The Hebrew word “angel” has a root meaning “to dispatch as a deputy with a message.” The Greek word means “to bring tidings; a messenger, envoy, one who is sent.”

  18. Angels execute judgment upon the wicked. This is how angels are portrayed most often in the Scriptures On Sodom; On Israel (because of David’s sin); On Sennacherib’s armies; On Herod (in Acts 12); Upon the inhabitants of the earth during the tribulation.

  19. They were active in the creation of heaven and earth (Job. 38:4-7). 2. Cherubims guarded the tree of life at the conclusion of the our time in the garden of eden (Gen. 3:24). 3. Angelic beings left their habitation to co-habitate with men at the conclusion of Conscience (Gen. 6). Jude clarifies this… 4. Abraham was guided by an angel when he left Er for the land of Canaan at the commencement of the dispensation of Promise (Gen. 24:6-7).

  20. Angels attended the giving of the Law (Gal. 3:19). Gal 3:19 Why the Law then? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator, until the seed would come to whom the promise had been made.

Angels announced the birth of the Christ (Luke 2) Luk 2:9-11 And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. Angels announced the resurrection of Christ (Mt. 28:1-6) Mat 28:2-6 And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it. (3) And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. (4) The guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men. (5) The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. (6) "He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.

  23. Angels will be present at the Rapture and extremely active during the Tribulation period. There are 76 references to angels in Revelation! Mat 24:31 "And He will send forth His angels with A GREAT TRUMPET and THEY WILL GATHER TOGETHER His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.

  24. The FALL of Angels Some angels are called “evil angels” (Ps. 78:49). The Bible calls them “devils.” Where did these evil angels come from?

  25. Satan was originally Lucifer, the anointed cherub. He fell and became “the devil” when he was lifted up in pride and sought to exalt his throne above the throne of God That is, he desired to be worshipped like God. Satan still desires worshippers. One of his temptations posed to Christ was for Jesus to worship him (Mt. 4:9). During the tribulation period, almost the whole world will worship him “And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? ...And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb...” (Rev. 13:4, 8).

  26. 1Th 2:18 For we wanted to come to you--I, Paul, more than once--and yet Satan hindered us.

  27. All angels were originally created “holy.” God cannot create something that is sinful. Some angels chose not to obey God and sinned. Peter refers to “the angels that sinned” (2 Pet. 2:4). Jude mentions “the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation...” (Jude 6). C. Jesus referred to hell as “everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels” (Mt. 25:41). Evidently, Satan’s angels are the angels which chose to follow Lucifer in his quest for the worship that belonged to God.

  28. nThe Fallen Angels. 2 Corinthians 11:13-14 warns us of “false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light” (2 Cor. 11:14). Most of what is being portrayed on television, movies and books regarding angels is not biblical and very dangerous; perhaps deadly.

  29. Mt. 12:43-44 "When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none." There seems to be something undesirable in their existence. Mk. 5:7-12 vs. 7 "I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not." This was in the context of being cast out. Lu. 8:31 "And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep." This would indicate that they had the possibility of being cast into the pit with the rest.

  30. Paul writes: "Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?"Hebrews 1v14. Angels test believers!!! "Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it."Hebrews 13v2

  31. nAngels have __positions, __jobs___, ___classes_____, and ______councils________ or governing ___hierarchies__________. nDaniel gives us a look at a heavenly council that observes the affairs of man and makes judgments and issues decrees!

  35. Dan 10:13 "But the prince of the kingdom of Persia was withstanding me for twenty-one days; then behold, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, for I had been left there with the kings of Persia.

  36. THE EVIL ANGEL ( PRINCE OF PERSIA ) WAS AS STRONG AS THE ANGEL FROM GOD! IT STOPED HIM FOR 21 DAYS, AND IT TOOK MICHEAL TO HELP HIM GET AWAY! WHAT IS THE ' PRINCE OF SADDLEBACK VALLEY' LIKE?

  37. The Angels had seen enough of pride, and they cried out for a verdict against Nebuchadnezzar’s pride. Ez. 1:18, Zech 4:10, Is. 62:6 We are being watched! Angels fight spiritual battles for us and on our behalf: Daniel 10:13

  38. God created angels – Heaven already existed – it was God’s dwelling place for the eternal past. Praise Him, all His angels; Praise Him, all His hosts…Let them praise the name of the Lord, For He commanded and they were created. (Psalm 148:2,5) For by [God's beloved Son] all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities —all things have been created through Him and for Him. (Colossians 1:16)

  39. The morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy. (Job 38:7) Morning stars and sons of God are terms for angels. This indicates that the angels were praising God as they witnessed His creation of the world; therefore, we know the angels existed in that condition before time — in eternity [past].

  40. How many exist? (Dan 7:10) "A river of fire was flowing And coming out from before Him; Thousands upon thousands were attending Him, And myriads upon myriads were standing before Him; The court sat, And the books were opened. What is ten thousand times ten thousand? That equals 100 million angels. Now add the thousands upon thousands for the sum of the many angels that John saw = [a minimum of] 100 million + thousands more!

  41. This inestimable number of angels is clarified in the Book of Hebrews: But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels. (Hebrews 12:22) Do you know what innumerable angels means? Very simply, there are just too many angels for us to count. Possibly, there are billions and billions of angels.

  42. Angels have jobs, positions, councils, and functions. They have free will. For eternity past God had a whole different dimension in heaven filled with billions of beings!

  43. Angels Types and Ministry

  44. Angelology (1) The mention of angels is inclusive in Scripture. These celestial beings are referred to 196 times, 103 times in the Old Testament and 93 times in the New Testament. (2) Further, these many references are scattered throughout the Bible being found in at least 34 books from the very earliest books (whether Job or Genesis) to the last book of the Bible (Revelation). (3) Finally, there are numerous references to angels by the Lord Yeshua, who is declared to be the Creator of all things, which includes the angelic beings. Paul wrote, “For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities (a reference to angels)—all things have been created by Him and for Him.”

  45. Angels Angelic Beings Though other words are used for these spiritual beings, the primary word used in the Bible is angel. Three other terms undoubtedly referring to angels are seraphim (Isa. 6:2), cherubim (Ezek. 10:1-3), and ministering spirits, which is perhaps more of a description than a name (Heb. 1:13). The Hebrew word forangel is mal`ach, and the Greek word is angelos. Both words mean “messenger” and describe one who executes the purpose and will of the one whom they serve. The context must determine if a human messenger is in view, or one of the celestial beings called “angels,” or if it is being used of the second Person of the Trinity as will be discussed below. The holy angels are messengers of God, serving Him and doing His bidding. The fallen angels serve Satan, the god of this world. (2 Cor. 4:4).

  46. Heavenly Hosts “Host” is the Hebrew tsaba, “army, armies, hosts.” It is a military term and carries the idea of warfare. Angels are referred to as the “host,” which calls our attention to two ideas. First, it is used to describe God’s angels as the “armies of heaven” who serve in the army of God engaged in spiritual warfare (Ps. 89:6, 8; 1 Sam. 1:11; 17:45). Second, it calls our attention to angels as a multitude of heavenly beings who surround and serve God as seen in the phrase “Lord of hosts” (Isa. 31:4). In addition, tsaba sometimes includes the host of heavenly bodies, the stars of the universe.

  47. Sons of God Sons of God Angels are called “sons of God” in the sense that they were brought into existence by the creation of God (Job 1:6; 38:7). Though they are never spoken of as created in the image of God, they may also be called “sons of God” because they possess personality like God. This term is also used in Genesis 6:2 which tells us the “sons of God” took wives from among the “daughters of men.” The use of “sons of God” in Job, refers to fallen angels who mated with the daughters of men to produce an extremely wicked and powerful progeny that led to the extreme wickedness of Noah’s day. Most who hold to this latter view find further support in 2 Peter 2:4-6 and Jude 6-7

  48. Sons of God Jude 6-7 And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day; 7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

  49. Holy Ones The unfallen angels are also spoken of as “holy ones” (Ps. 89:5, 7). The reason is twofold. First, being the creation of a holy God, they were created perfect without any flaw or sin. Second, they are called holy because of their purpose. They were “set apart” by God and for God as His servants and as attendants to His holiness (cf. Isa. 6).

  50. The Angel of the Lord The Angel of the Lord is used in the Old Testament. A careful study of the many passages using this term suggests that this is no ordinary angel, but a Theophany, or better, a Christophany, a preincarnate appearance of the Messiah. The angel is identified as God, speaks as God, and claims to exercise the prerogatives of God. Still, in some passages He distinguishes Himself from YHVH (Gen. 16:7-14; 21:17-18; 22:11-18; 31:11-13, Ex. 3:2; Judg. 2:1-4; 5:23; 6:11-22; 13:3-22; 2 Sam. 24:16; Zech. 1:12; 3:1; 12:8). That the Angel of the Lord is a Christophany is suggested by the fact a clear reference to “the Angel of the Lord” ceases after the incarnation.
