Live Lovingly • Proclaim Joy and Hope • Be Living Instruments of Peace • Care for Creation Four Franciscan Values
Most high glorious God, enlighten the darkness of my heart and give me true faith, certain hope, and perfect charity, so that I may carry out Your holy and true command.
Live Lovingly To Live Lovingly means: • We honor as sacred the worth and dignity of each person by embracing each person as my sister and brother. • We create a compassionate, welcoming, and reconciling community, especially to those whom society excludes. • We serve others with humility, compassion, and love.
Proclaim Joy and Hope Proclaiming Joy and Hope requires us to be positive and thankful for the gifts that God has given to us and recognizing the gifts around us. • We strive to find the good instead of the negative in each situation. • We strive to bring joy and hope to others that we encounter. • We perform the tasks entrusted to us to the best of our ability, reflecting on the joy and hope that someone may experience from our work.
Be Living Instruments of Peace Being a Living Instrument of Peace requires that we strive for harmony between goodness and justice. We look for ways to be a peaceful presence in our community and world. • We strive to be peacemakers through our attitudes, values, and actions. • We seek to understand others without judging or excluding and we help others to do the same. • We announce peace by embracing those in need as a life-long commitment that helps me to understand those who are less fortunate.
Care for Creation • We care for everything in creation as a sacred gift from God. • We celebrate our relationship as sisters and brothers who are interconnected with one another and all of creation. • We receive gratefully, use carefully, and share generously the resources available to us.
Peace Prayer Peace Prayer Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace;Where there is hatred, let me sow love;Where there is injury, pardon;Where there is doubt, the faith;Where there is despair, hope;Where there is darkness, light; And where there is sadness, joy.O Divine Master,Grant that I may not so much seekTo be consoled, as to console; To be understood, as to understand; To be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; It is in pardoning that we are pardoned; And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
