  2. Sejong the Great • Hangul- Korean alphabet invented in 1443. • Hangul is written in phonetic symbols. It has 10 vowels & 14 consonants. • Sejong is also credited with many technological advances during his reign.

Japanese Feudal Society Emperor- figurehead, no political power Shogun-military and political leader of Japan Daimyo- high ranking samurai lords who provided shogun with warriors in exchange for land. Samurai- lower ranking warriors who served their daimyo in exchange for small manors. Bushido- “the way of the warrior” Peasants & Artisans- worked for their lord. Merchants- like Chinese society, generally held in contempt, considered unproductive
