Time Commitment • Cheerleading is a YEAR-ROUND activity • Season runs from April to March • Practices • Twice a week in the summer • Once a week during the school year • Summer • Fundraising Season • Football Season • On average, one game each week (Aug.-Nov.) • Basketball Season • Up to three games each week. Usually no more than two games (Nov.-Mar.)
Approximate Cost • Camp $50-100 • T-shirts and Shorts $20-25 • Shoes $65 • Football Jersey $45-55 • Polo Shirt $30-35 • Boy Cut Briefs $15 • Navy Body Liner $20-25 • Warm-Up $90-110 • Bow $5-8 • Booster Fee $25 **BBQ Fundraiser at the start of the season** **to offset cheerleaders’ costs**
Parent Involvement • Summer Fundraisers • Cheerleader and Parent Participation • 2 Cruise-Ins • ICI Picnic • Spirit Booth • Freshman parents sell at home football games • Reitz Cheer Boosters • Meet once each month • All parents welcome and encouraged to attend
Breakdown of Teams • Freshman Team • Cheer home Fr. and JV football games • Cheer home Boys Freshman basketball games • Blue and Gray Varsities • Cheer all Varsity football games together • Cheer all Boys Varsity basketball games and all home Girls Varsity basketball games • Basketball games are split between Blue and Gray Varsities
How Teams are Chosen • No set number that make the team • Past years—anywhere from 28-39 girls • Look for a natural break in scores • Incoming 9th graders can only try out for the freshman team • Blue and Gray Varsities are equal in terms of ability
Tryout Clinics • Current seniors teach material • All candidates receive tryout number on Day 1 • Attire • Must wear all your hair pulled back • T-shirt, shorts, and tennis shoes • No jewelry of any kind • Location • Tryout clinics—Reitz Large Gym • Tryouts—Reitz Small Gym
Tryout Clinics • Day 1—Monday, April 2 (3:10-5:00) • Learn ALL tryout material • Cheer • Jumps • Portion of School Song • Dance • *You may bring a blank CD on Day 1 to copy the music. No extra CDs will be available.
Tryout Clinics • Day 2—Tuesday, April 3 (3:10-4:30) • Wear t-shirt and shorts, all hair pulled back, no jewelry • Review all material and practice tumbling • Stereo will be set up and playing continuously • Candidates rotate through the gym working on the material as needed • NO CDs will be made on Day 2
Tryouts • Day 3—Wednesday, April 4 (3:00-??) • Start with incoming seniors and athletes with conflicts and finish with incoming freshmen • Try out in groups of 3 • Jumps and Tumbling individually • Cheer, School Song, and Dance with the group • Attire • Plain white or gray t-shirt (no writing, no fitted shirts) • Plain dark shorts • Tennis shoes • All hair must be worn in a ponytail. No hair in the face • Hair bow is preferred • Absolutely no jewelry or gum • Qualified Judges with many years cheerleading experience
Tryout Scores • Each candidate will be scored objectively on • Cumulative GPA • Teacher Evaluations • Attendance/Punctuality • Respect for Authority and Peers • Effort and Quality of Work • Honesty and Integrity • Attitude and Personality • Cheerleader Skills • Standing and Running Tumbling (degree of difficulty, execution) • Jumps (execution, height, overall technique) • Cheer (motions, execution, spirit, voice) • Dance (rhythm, motions, execution, coordination) • School Song (rhythm, motions, execution, coordination, enthusiasm)
Tryout Results • Results will be posted on the gym doors on Thursday, April 5 at 3:00. • 2012-2013 Reitz Cheerleaders and parents will have another meeting the 3rd week of April • Reitz Hilltopper tryouts will be the following week. See Mrs. Falls for more information. **Tryout results are NON-NEGOTIABLE**
Required Forms • The following forms must be completed and returned to Mrs. Rowe by Monday, April 2: • Cheerleader Candidate Information Sheet • Three teacher evaluations sealed in envelopes (Cheerleader Applicant Evaluation Form) • Application for Cheerleading Tryouts • You understand Reitz is not liable for accidents • You understand candidates are scored by qualified judges • You understand the time commitment • You know you must attend all tryout clinics • You understand the approximate costs
