Tracksuits / coats, etc. Break time snacks should be in line with Healthy Eating policy (DENI Advice)

Numeracy Lines of Progression and school scheme used. Using Mathematics is related to USE Mathematics in different scenarios (processes); and Having the ability to use the Knowledge and Understanding in - Number, Handling Data, Shape/Space and Measure Use of Abacus 6 & 7 scheme and NHM 6 + ext. for guidance with supporting materials – commercial, own and board produced – Differentiating UP as well as down: Working between levels 3 and 4+ in the classroom – quite complex learning. Needs to be backed up by the basics, though.
Numeracy cont. Currently working with Mrs Bourne Mental Maths warm up / DS use Mon – Concept; Tues – Follow up; Wed/Thurs - Cement; Fri – Problem Solving/Word Problems Group work using ALTA / DS – Maths Training / LNI / Primary Games for support and reinforcement
Withdrawal Support Based on annual assessments that were taken last year (NFER) Supported, small group work. Homework separate to these classes – however elements of LNI can/should also be done (as appropriate) Following the same NI curriculum at level appropriate work. Reintegration on Friday entails: Literacy – Comprehension work Numeracy – Problem solving Also Reading Partnership Support during the school week
Topics Primary 6/7 Guidance split between classes Autumn – Financial Capability / STEM Project Spring – Fair Enough / Environment Summer – Rollercoasters Encompasses – World Around Us (Geography/History/Science & Technology); The Arts (Drama/Music/Art); Personal Development/Mutual Understanding (PDMU) Interconnected Learning – Topics will support each other e.g. Financial Capabilities – Money – Currencies – Europe – Healthy Eating
Topics cont. ICT – core area for skills development - Thinking Skills – teamwork, lateral thinking, structuring approached to problems etc. P.E. – Autumn – Ball Skills and Team games; Spring – Gymnastics / Dance; Summer – Athletics / Rounders. Supported by ICLs suggestions as well as Fundamental Skills for development of core skills.
Homework Will try to give on Friday for the following week (during ‘dead time’ between 2-00 and 2-30) Organise within the week as best they can – Literacy/Numeracy/Topic Work (if applicable)/Problem Solving activity Rote learning and cementing of tables and number facts Spelling activities should be completed nightly following the format at the front of spelling homework books – (only thing we ask to reinforce the school work) www.zondle.com Will support school work – usually to follow work completed the previous week in class.
Homework cont. Differentiated in line with class work and child’s abilities with my expectations. Reading to be completed nightly – structured reading, not lying about unfocussed. Variety of texts may be used – personal novel, Newsround website, news story, interesting magazines, Comics / graphic novels. ‘Comics are the chocolate of the reading world.’ Record reading in reading diaries – may be some exercises to support that reading – e.g. find 5 good adjectives each night, etc.
Homework cont. LNI element – Try to have something interesting for the children to discuss / read / research. Important skills to develop and makes homework ‘enjoyable’ I can be emailed!! Safe environment – LNI can only be accessed by registered users and I do the registering for homeworks. Electronic homework monitored by myself. Electronic homework can be brought in on USB pen drive, if needed, but please try to print at home. Scan all drives for viruses and make sure you are up to date at home with virus software as well. Discussion boards monitored and messages can be deleted if needed – polite debate.
Assessment Daily / weekly assessment through classroom practice. Tracking assessment for children to ensure progress – E.g. ALTA Formal assessments of CBA (Sept.) NFER annual testing (before AT) as well as ongoing formal assessment that will form the basis of the final levels given at the end of the year.
Entrance Tests Monday / Wednesday / Friday (CEA Practice paper) Elements on Tuesday and Thursday Monday and Tuesday evening – ½ test & activities Wednesday and Thursday evening – as above Extra class on Thursday afternoons – elements of the questions (English) can be examined in detail. Trying to give the children as much experience of time management as possible.
