  2. Points to Remember • When you write a number in word form, remember to put a comma between each grouping of three digits • Start from the left with the greatest place value position • Remember to identify the place value groups after each set of three

Place Value Practice • Write the following numbers in numerical form. • Sixty seven million, eight hundred ninety thousand, three hundred seventy two • Nine hundred nine million, one hundred eighty two thousand, seven hundred eighty six • Two million, six hundred thousand, eighty four • Write the following numbers in word form • 334, 089, 706 • 44, 465, 990 • 6, 888, 312

  4. Comparing large numbers When comparing large numbers, you first start by comparing each individual place value. Let’s compare 234 233 090 and 234 233 095. It is sometimes helpful to put the numbers into a place value chart.

  5. Greater Than, Less Than The greater than and less than symbols are always arranged so that the open end faces the larger number.

  6. PV Game • Each partner should draw nine small horizontal lines to show spots for value all the way up to the hundred millions ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ • On your turn you (not your partner) get to roll the dice. You may place that number anywhere you want. Once it has been placed it cannot be moved. Your goal is to make the largest number. Switch turns rolling the dice until both of your numbers are complete. Write your final number down in word form.

  7. Place Value Position Each individual digit holds a place value position. For example, in the number 194 876 523, the 3 is is the ones position, the 2 is in the tens position, the 5 is in the hundreds position, the 6 is in the thousands position, the 7 is in the ten thousands position, the 8 is in the 8 hundred thousands position, the 4 is in the millions position, the 9 is in the ten millions position, and the 1 is in the hundred millions position.
