To Speak With a Guidance Counselor: Students may sign up on their counselor’s schedule sheet located just outside of their office before school, after school, during lunch, or study hall.
Program of Studies Requirements For Graduation
Language Arts • 4 credits • You will be taking English every year.
Mathematics • 3 credits total • Most students take math every year.
Science • 3 credits total • Most students take science every year.
Social Studies • 3 credits total: • World History • American History • Government/Economics
Health/P.E. • P.E. 9 – ¼ Credit • P.E. 10 – ¼ Credit • Health 10 – ½ Credit
Business/Tech, Foreign Language or Fine Arts • 1 credit total • Fine Arts Classes – Art, Band, Choir, & Dramatics • Foreign Language Classes – French, Spanish & Mandarin Chinese • Business/Technology Classes – Computer, & General Business • Industrial Arts Classes - Graphic Tech, Manufacturing, etc.
Electives 9 credits total • An elective course is any course not required for graduation. • Example – Foods I & II, Intro. to Manufacturing, Clothing and Fashion, & Business Classes
Total Credits for Graduation… • Must also pass all 5 parts of the Ohio Graduation Test 24
College Prep Meet all requirements for graduation and complete… • 2 units of 1 foreign language • 1 unit of fine arts
Ohio Honors Diploma Must meet all of the following requirements • 4 units of: English, Math, Science, Social Studies • 3 units of one foreign language or 2 of each • One unit of fine arts – art, drama, and music • Maintain a 3.5 GPA or obtain a 27 on the ACT
Class Recommendations Honors & AP Courses Your current 8th grade teachers will help you decide whether to enroll in regular or honors classes.
Schedule Changes • Choose classes wisely • Schedules are not changed often. They will only be changed for certain reasons: misplaced academically, etc.
Planning for the Future • Counselors recommend students make a 4 year plan of courses that they would like to take throughout high school. • Pay particular attention to pre-requisites required for classes.
Scheduling for Grade 9 Required… • English – 9 or 9 H. • Mathematics – Integrated I, Algebra I, Geometry or Geometry H • Social Studies – World History I & II, World History Honors • Science – General Science, Biology, Biology H. • P. E. – • Electives – 2 credits of electives
Grade Promotion • 10th grade students - 5.75 credits • 11th grade students - 11 credits • 12th grade students - 16.5 credits 24 credits =

PSEO Opportunities • PSEO Meeting Wednesday, February 18 in the PAC at the high school at 7:00 PM • Learn how to earn high school and college credit at the same time! • All students must submit a letter of intent to ALHS Guidance by the end of March 30, 2009. • All students must apply to the college by June 4, 2009.
