WP5– Flagship Deployment Daniel Novak - CGI
WP Objectives • Porting of the flagships to the cloud infrastructure provisioned by WP4. Evaluate and iteratively refine the deployment environment based on the need to improve the capabilities of each flagship. Specific goals • To initially deploy the three flagship applications on the cloud infrastructure, at a limited scale, in such a way that the flagships can be used by their intended user communities; • To assess the success of the deployments in terms of key evaluation criteria to be defined by each flagship; • To move to a full scale deployment based on the results of the initial deployments and any necessary refinements of the application or deployment environments.
Effort Contribution • Lead Beneficiary: Logica/CGI Germany WP5
Scientific/technical achievementsand their impact (1) Pilot Deployment Environment • All three flagship deployments were successfully completed during the Pilot deployments • Helix Nebula Marketplace (HNX) launched in May 2014 with additional deployments completed • Deployment findings analysed and documented in D5.4 • Future technical requirements documented in D5.2 addressing current limitations and possible extensions HNX Deployment Environment
Scientific/technical achievementsand their impact (2) • Flagship Deployment Findings:All flagship applications successfully deployed • Similar levels of performance as in-house infrastructure experienced • Blue box provisioning and cloud integration/configuration requiring significant effort causing delays to the schedule • Better use of programmatic access to the services would reduce manpower • The EC2 bridge is a recent development that requires further testing • Cloud assets were some times limited constraining elasticity tests • Billing process is currently fragmented These limitations are addressed in the HNX roadmap
Exploitation and use of foreground • Helix Nebula Marketplace (HNX) now in production • D5.2 -> Roadmap of future functionality for the brokerage service • On-Boarding of new PoC candidates (PIC & DIGIT) building upon lessons learnt to-date • Workshop held with DG DIGIT (IT department of the EC) in June 2014 to explore how a new Drupal-based Europa platform can be based on federated cloud services
A lightweight standards family aimed at facilitating service management in IT service provision, including federated scenarios. The main goals of the FitSM family are: • Create a clear, pragmatic, lightweight and achievable standard that allows for effective IT service management (ITSM). • Offer a version of ITSM that can cope with federated environments, which often lack the hierarchy and level of control seen in other situations. • Provide a baseline ITSM to support ‘management interoperability’ in federated environments where disparate or competing organisations must cooperate to manage services. • Candidates from Atos, CGI, CloudSigma, T-Systems, Interoute, SixSq & EGI.eu have all received certification CONFIDENTIAL
Contribution to the disseminationof project results • HNX was first introduced at CloudScape VI event held in Brussels in Feb. 2014 • Demos of deployment on the HNX production environment at the Helix Nebula Public Event in May 2014
Summary • Flagship deployments all successfully completed • Production environment launched in May 2014 • Identified areas for the extension of the live service documented in a published roadmap • PIC flagship documented and initial phases of on-boarding started • Workshop held with DIGIT to assess the suitability of federated cloud to their Drupal-hosting needs
