Point of View. The perspective from which the story is told. – Who’s telling the story? The point of view is the way you “see” and “hear” the story. There are three types…. Third Person. The story is told by a narrator (who is not a character in the story)

  1. Point of View • The perspective from which the story is told. – Who’s telling the story? • The point of view is the way you “see” and “hear” the story. • There are three types…

  2. Third Person • The story is told by a narrator (who is not a character in the story) • He - She - They - The boy - The girl • Example: Stanley had no trouble falling asleep, but morning came much too quickly. Every muscle and joint in his body ached as he tried to get out of bed. He hated the sun. Holes

  3. Second Person • The narrator (or a character in the story) speaks directly to the reader. • You • Example: And have I not told you that what you mistake for madness is but over-acuteness of the sense?—now, I say, there came to my ears a low, dull quick sound, such as a watch makes when enveloped in cotton. The Tell-Tale Heart

  4. First Person • The story is told by one of the characters. • I - We - My - Mine • Example: I reclaimed my backpack from Grover and looked inside. The master bolt was still there. Such a small thing to almost cause World War III.Percy Jackson & the Olympians

  5. Some examples… The dragon sprang skyward, vast wings unfolding. Seth raised an arm to shield his eyes from the brief windstorm. Once aloft, the dragon passed swiftly out of view, heading back toward the larger meadow. Fablehaven

  6. Back in third grade, I got invited to Dean’s birthday party, but Mom got the date wrong and I showed up at his house a week EARLY. Dean’s mom told us the party was the following week, so we went home. Diary of a Wimpy Kid
