Develop Recreation Programs Element 1: Determine program parameters
What is meant by parameters? • Each OOSH service produces and maintains a program unique to there own circumstances • Parameters are those factors that affect how the service produces and maintains a program Eg. The budget will affect the type of activites, materials used etc.
Consider these questions • How does OOSH differ from other types of Children’s Services? • How does your OOSH differ from other OOSH services? • What resources are available in your OOSH services? • Look at attendance pattern of children, age groups, interests • Consider the children in context
Aims and goals - philosophy • What is a philosophy? • Why is it important to develop a philosophy? • How is a philosophy developed? • Who is involved in developing a philosophy?
Program Freedoms & Constraints • Environmental eg. Venue, safety, space, equipment • Human eg. Number of staff, qualifications, skills of staff, number of children • These freedoms and constraints provide the parameters of the program and will impact on the aims/goals (philosophy) of the service
