MWR Recreation ProgramsSurvey of Army Families V • All spouses: 82.9% are at or near a post/installation where there are MWR recreation programs/services. • All spouses: Of those who live at or near a post/installation, 72.1% reported they use post recreation programs/services. • All spouses: Of those who are at or near a post/installation, usage of MWR recreation programs/services varies considerably: • - 26.7% use programs/services 3 or more times a month • - 16.4% use programs/services 1 - 2 times a month • - 29.0% use programs/services less than once a month • - 27.9% never use programs/services • All spouses: Compared to 2001, smaller percentages report they use these programs 1 or more times a month (48.7% in 2001, 43.1% in 2004/5) while larger percentages report using these programs less than one time per month (25.4% in 2001, 29.0% in 2004/5). All spouses: One-third to three-fifths of those who use MWR recreation programs and services do so for the following reasons: • - Have fun (60.8%) • - Physical fitness (56.3%) • - Get away from home (47.2%) • - Costs less than off-post services (47.0%) • - Be outdoors (37.6%) • - Participate with family (36.7%) • - Relax/relieve stress (34.8%) • All spouses: Compared to 2001, higher percentages use post recreation programs and services to get away from home (42.4% in 2001, 47.2% in 2004/5), participate with friends (27.0% in 2001, 30.8% in 2004/5), and avoid boredom (27.9% in 2001, 31.1% in 2004/5). • 7.
