The GCSE MFL Course • The AQA GCSE Course consists of the followingelements: • Speaking (30%) • Writing (30%) • Reading (20%) • Listening (20%)
ControlledAssessments • The Speaking and WritingElements are assessed via ControlledAssessments. • The 2 speaking exams willbecompletedduringYear 10 • The 2 writing exams willbecompletedduringYear 11 • Each of theseControlledAssessmentswill count for 15% of the final GCSE grade.
The Speaking Exams • The 2 speaking exams willbebased on the followingtopics: • Exam 1: Mon Collège (MySchool) w/c 8th December • Exam 2: Mon Temps Libre (My Free Time) w/c 16th March
Teacher input • In lessonswewillbecovering all the language and grammarrequired for these exams • Eg: Mon Collège • Describingyourschool • Opinions of yoursubjects • Describingyourteachers • Schoolrules • Whatyoudid at schoolyesterday • Yourprimaryschool • Youridealschool • Present, perfect, imperfect and conditionaltenses
Preparation time • Once students have been given the task by theirteacher (6 hours of lesson time beforeso 3 weeks of lessons) we CANNOT correct theirwork. • Students CAN peerassessand self assesstheirworkduringthisperiod
Studentpreparation • To besuccessfulitis CRUCIAL thatstudents: • Bringtheir books to all lessons • Make good notes in class • Complete all Home Learning on time and to the best of theirability
How wecan support you son/daughter • Wecan mark their Home Learning and classwork and provide feedback as to whetheranswers are suitable and how theycanbeimproved • Wecan practice speaking in lessons and in lunchtime clubs • Wecanallocatelearning mentors and FLA’s to support students
Marking-Effort (Ctl) Wefeelthat the student has tried hard to completethis Home Learning/classwork and are pleasedwiththeir efforts G A Wecanseethat the student has completed the work but feeltheycould have put in more effort R The student has not completed the work to a satisfactory standard
Marking-Attainment This piece of workis on or above the level the studentis/shouldbeaiming for 1 2 This piece of workis good but requiresimprovement to be at the standard the studentisaiming for 3 This piece of workis not up the level the studentis aiming for
The Speaking Exam • Lasts 4-6 minutes • Studentswilbeasked 5 ‘main’ questions (thoughwecanaddadditional questions to help prompt students) • There willbe a surprise question • Students are allowed to take in 40 words to help them, NO conjugatedverbs are allowed
Retakes • Anyretakeswillbecompleted in Year 10 • Thesewillonlybeoffered at the teacher’sdiscretion for exceptionalcircumstances • Studentswillberequired to attend extra lunchtime sessions and completeadditionalpreparation for these
