How is voting part of the “Political Process” ? • Voting is a basic responsibility of citizenship • Registration is required before a citizen may vote • Only citizens who register may participate in primary and general elections • The number of citizens who register and vote is related to how important election issues are

  8. Don’t write What are primaries? Think of a basketball tournament… out of all of the good teams, who goes to the finals? Answer: They hold quarter & semi finals to narrow down the list of teams. Political Parties do this in elections. Each political party can only send one person to run in the General Election. How do they decide? Answer: They hold primaries (or semi finals) which are elections to help the political party decide who should run for their party in the General Election.

  17. More people vote in presidential elections than in state and local elections.

  18. How can students under 18 participate in the democratic (political) process? • Direct participation in campaigns • Participate in classroom and on-line simulations
