  2. Teaching in Small Steps In a learning episode, we tend to remember best that which comes first, and remember second best that which comes last. We tend to remember least that which comes just past the middle of the episode.

  3. Chunking • Two ways: • 90-minute class period • Amount of information students can handle at once

A learning episode • When material is presented: Prime Time 1 – present new material during this time – it’s most likely to be remembered Down time – Retention can take place during this time but it is more difficult to achieve Prime Time 2 – Closure takes place here – time for students to make sense of the learning/summarize
