WhyUpgrade? • Mission critical system • Five years since last upgrade • Aging hardware • Disk space is full James Madison University Information Technology February 2011
Benefits • Quota increase • Approximately doubling capacity for each college and administrative division • Additional 5 GB quota for each department • Users get 3GB quota separate from their department • Ability to add additional disk space as needed • No more Novell NetWare client • No client is necessary to access the new network file storage James Madison University Information Technology February 2011
Benefits(Continued) • Drive mapping consolidation • In Windows, the N: drive will provide access to ALL network file storage • Anti-virus scanning • All files will automatically be scanned for viruses and malware James Madison University Information Technology February 2011
Changes • Accessing data • Windows • Single drive letter for all data ( N:) • J, K, L, and M drives go away • Macintosh • Mac users connect to one or more of the new servers/volumes in a similar way as they do today James Madison University Information Technology February 2011
Changes(continued) • Personal folders • Personal folders (identified by e-ID) no longer reside within the departmental folder • Personal folders are arranged alphabetically by e-ID as follows: James Madison University Information Technology February 2011
Impacts to Windows Users • All references to drives J, K, L, or M will need to be modified to reference the N drive: • Desktop shortcuts • Microsoft Office: Default file locations, Recently used list • Desktop applications • Scripts • Databases • Embedded links • Documentation • Direct references to server names, for example NWDATA1, NWDATA2, NWDATA3 James Madison University Information Technology February 2011

Migration Day • Access to the new environment will be available using the same methods as currently use • On-campus wired & wireless • Off-campus – using the VPN client • Log into Novell NetWare client as usual (Windows computers)- automatically maps all network drives, new and those not yet migrated James Madison University Information Technology February 2011
Upon Project Completion • Windows Computers Only • Novell NetWare client will be removed • Users will be notified prior to the removal • Single login to computer with e-ID and password • Access to both local and network files upon login James Madison University Information Technology February 2011
