  3. Seed Propagation Before Propagation Clean-up

  4. The Jumping Off Point Lisa Appel from the Cranbrook Institute of Science exchanges thoughts with DIT students about seed propagation!

  5. Native seeds selected for propagation • Ironweed (Vermonia Missurica) • Cup Plant (Silphium perfoliatum)

  6. Native seeds selected for propagation • Black chokeberry (AroniaMelanocarpa) • Grey Dogwood (CornusFoemina)

  7. Success!.............Or not Condition for germination • Germination rate is the % that sprout to seeds propagated. • Example: 1out of 75 = 1.33% • Rates affected by…. • Seed viability. • Temperature. • Moisture. • Type of plant. • Quality of seed.

  8. Three weeks with unexpected results No germination occurred in three weeks We decided to propagate Zinnia. Lisa provided the seeds and a Cody Green Comet began propagating.

  9. Three Weeks into the alternate seed propagation • Tho weeks • Silphium Iron weed
