  4. SonarSound Navigation and Ranging • Device used to measure the distance of an object underwater “Dolphins use this to locate food” • Used by ships to locate submarines

  5. B-29 Super Fortress • Boeing. 1939 • Mostly used in Pacific • Crew of 10 • 12 .50 caliber machine guns • Carry 20,000 pounds payload • Range over 5,000 miles, fly at 32,000 feet • Dropped atomic bombs • Used until 1960

  6. V-2 Rockets • Designed by German scientist Wernher von Braun 1932 • Used to bomb Britain • Von Braun escaped to the U.S. and became lead scientist in U.S. rocketry program (military and NASA)
