Build Meta Cognitive Skills (ePortfolio/Reflective Papers) Use More Formative Assessment (Marzano 1998) Classroom Assessment Techniques (Cross & Angelo) Small Group Work Cooperative Student Projects Simulations (software/role plays) Case studies (Meyers & Thomas, 1993)
Advice for Faculty Don’t worry about teaching to learning styles! Use active learning: reading, writing, talking, reflecting, doing and you will hit all learning modalities and ultimately reinforce learning which leads to deeper conceptual learning (meaning-making)
No time to create new teaching strategies? Create a template for your lessons that incorporate multiple modalities for learning (some reading, lecture, quiz, group discussion, writing/responding, and reflecting)
