  3. American Industry Flourishes • Coolidge - reelected in 1924 after taking over for Harding. • Low Taxes to improve profit for business • High Tariffs • Airplanes- mail carry • Lindberg, Earhart Trans-Atlantic • Pan-America- first passenger flights across Atlantic

  4. New Culture of Auto • Automobile- Ford replaces Model T for more equipped Model A- special order • 1921 Federal Highway Act- building roads such as route 66 • Urban Sprawl- Garage and Driveways, drive to work • Use of Trucks vs. Trains for commerce • Gas Stations on roads

  5. Standard of Living Soars • Alternating Current- Allows electricity to travel further (70% of homes) • Electrical Convenience- Washing Machine, Vacuum cleaner, sewing machine • Modern Advertising • Radio- becomes essential in home • Listerine creates “Halitosis”
