  3. Impact of Automobile • Changed American landscape • Most visible effect was paved roads. • New houses w/ garages • Gasoline stations, repair shops, ect. • Automatic traffic signals.

  4. Impact of Automobile • Liberated rural families from the country. • Allowed young people & women more mobility & independence. • Urban Sprawl – cities spread in all directions.

  5. Standard of Living Soars • Auto industry symbolized success. • Electrical conveniences increased • Most farms did not have electricity. • Appliances made the housewives job much easier. • Installment Plan – enabled people to buy goods over a period of time.
