Introduction • In the Book of Acts, we read of the rapid spread of Christianity (Acts 2:41, 46-47; 4:4; 5:14; 6:1; 6:7; 9:31). • Let us In this lesson, we offer a Biblical answer to the question, “Why did the early church grow?”
The Early Church Grew Because • They continued in the apostle’s doctrine (Acts 2:42; John 14:25-26; 16:12-15; 1 Corinthians 2:12-13). • They shared spiritual fellowship and social association (Acts 2:42, 46; 1 Corinthians 1:9-10; Acts 16:14-15, 32-34). • They practiced benevolence, both collectively (Acts 2:44-45; 4:32-37; 11:27-30; Romans 15:25-27) and individually (Galatians 6:10; James 1:27; 1 Timothy 5:3-16).
The Early Church Grew Because • They were courageous (Acts 4:1-31; 5:12-42). • They were distinctive (Acts 5:1-14). • They were organized (Acts 6:1-7; 14:21-23; 20:17-32). • They were evangelistic (Acts 2:36-41; 5:42; 8:1-4).
Conclusion • If we follow this Biblical pattern, we will fulfill the words of the prophets (Isaiah 55:10-13; Amos 9:13-15) and of the Lord Jesus (Matthew 9:36-38; John 4:34-38).
