Why do we go to DISL? • The DISL field trip is very educational! • You get to learn many things about the ocean and sea life! • The staff at DISL are very nice and have all the answers to any question you ask! • I enjoyed learning at DISL! • At DISL everything is a hands on experience!
The Salt Marsh! A salt marsh is a like a swamp but it is all mud! At the salt marsh we got to explore and find animals that lived there! We collected all of the animals that we found then our leader taught us some things about the different animals. We als0 got to go into the bay area and use nets and buckets to catch fish, crabs, oysters ext. We learned many things about all of the sea animals we played with! • Animals that we caught in the salt marsh and the bay: • Blue crabs • Snails • fiddler crabs • small shrimp • Small fish • Small Flounder • Oysters • Hermit crabs
The Touch Lab! After we finished dissecting our squid we got to eat it! Fried squid is called calamari, that’s what we ate! The touch lab is really cool! This is where we learned about all different kinds of sea animals! The staff member who was teaching us about these animals also had real animals in the room they were all dead but it was fun because we got to touch them and pick them up. In the touch lab we also got to dissect a squid!
The Squid! The beak and mouth are in the middle of all of its legs. Ink sack The eggs The tentacles The eye Flippers 3 hearts
The Estuarium! An estuarium is like an aquarium it has fish, turtles and squids. We had to go on a scavenger hunt in the estuarium and we had to fill out some papers.
