  3. Who are we? The Physical Activity Alliance was established in 2010 to bring together the whole sector, indoor and outdoor leisure and active travel. Steering group members include: Sustrans; YMCA; Faculty for Public Health; EMDP; ASA; Sport & Recreation Alliance; Outdoor Health Forum; FIA; CSP Network; Bristol City Council; Local Government Association; SkillsActive. Sport England and Department of Health both have Observer status on the Steering Group

PAA Aims: to serve as the national umbrella and coordinating body for the whole physical activity sector be the advocate for physical activity with national and local government provide expert input to government and other consultations, to ensure development of effective policy & practice support Department of Health and partners in developing a robust evidence base for physical activity delivery work with our partners to increase the scope and range of physical activity opportunities available to local people in every community, particularly to those who are least active.

  5. The emerging role and function of PAA Voice: bringing the sector together, through Steering Group membership website to engage with Government and policy-makers. How? Physical Activity Network Strategic Board DH and Local Government involvement in Steering Group Lobbying

  6. Role & Function of the PAA (cont.) Positioning: engage sector to make the case for physical activity, nationally and locally, not only as the ‘best buy in public health’ but as a way of addressing a much wider range of social outcomes. Co-ordination: enable the sector to pool resources and focus to address key issues in a coherent and coordinated way.

  7. Projects: PAA will help maximise resources, and impact, through: bringing partners together to address common issues (Eg Building the Case for Physical Activity, UK Guidelines); initiating key projects for the sector, such as the Physical Activity Charter for England; Sharing learning from international partners (Eg GAPA); Providing the forum to ensure national initiatives are road-tested, or consulted, across the sector – eg the Evaluation Framework for Physical Activity; Identify new and exciting physical activity programmes that have potential for wider roll-out.
