  2. History • Founded 1907 by Royal Charter- to develop and exploit the natural resources of the Commonwealth • Combined the Royal College of Science, Royal School of Mines and the City and Guilds College • Built on the site of the 1851 Great Exhibition Show Ground

  3. Growth • 1925 joined the University of London- renamed to Imperial College of Science and Technology • 1950 massive expansion and building programmeDemolition of Imperial Institute, except Queens Tower and start of construction of new buildings over 20 years

  5. Medicine • 1988 St Mary’s Hospital and Medical School join the College • 2004 Opening of Tanaka Business School
