  2. Tape Drive • Data storage device that reads and writes data on a magnetic tape. • Typically used for offline archival data storage. • Provides sequential access storage.

  3. Tape Drive • A tape drive must physically wind the tape between reels to read one particular piece of data. • Very low seek speeds.

  4. Design • Tape drives can range in capacity from a few megabytes to hundreds of gigabytes of uncompressed data. • Tape drives can be connected with SCSI, Fibre Channel, SATA, USB, FireWire, FICON, or other interfaces. • Autoloaders are used to increase time without manual intervention.

  5. Tape Drive • Tape drives have yet to reach their maximum capacity possible. • Tape media generally has a favorable cost and has long archival stability.
