  2. Mission and Vision Mission: Dorchester School District Two leading the way, every student, every day, through relationships, rigor, and relevance. Vision: Dorchester School District Two desires to be recognized as a “World Class” school district, expecting each student to achieve at his/her optimum level in all areas, and providing all members of our district family with an environment that permits them to do their personal best.

  3. Why Workstations? • Differentiate more often • Avoid long periods of whole group instruction • Allows for us to be more creative as teachers • Students have more independence, responsibility, and accountability • Allows students to be more creative • Addresses different learning styles

  4. Grade Level Reading Workstations • Students are grouped by reading levels (DRAs, Lexile, teacher observation) • Workstations: • 1) Teacher directed • 2) Computer/iPad • 3) Buddy Reading • 4) SMART Board/standard based task cards

  5. Grade Level Reading Workstations • APK and Mini-lesson are taught whole group • Guided and Independent practice are completed in workstations • Closure is completed whole group or in teacher directed workstation • 10 minute rotations (about a 55 minute block) • Rotation schedule is on a bookmark that students carry with them to each workstation

  6. Phonics Workstations • APK is taught whole group (2-3 minutes) • Guided practice is completed with the teacher • Independent practice is completed in workstations • Closure is completed whole group or in teacher directed work station • Students remain in station for the entire period • Students are pulled from their station for 10 minute periods and return to their station for the day • Students rotate daily (rotation chart is on a SMART Board)

  7. Phonics Workstations • Students are grouped by behavior, interest, level etc. • Students are pulled to teacher table by level (teacher observation, assessments) • Workstations: • 1) Computer/iPad • 2) SMART Board • 3) Spelling game • 4) Spelling game

  8. Math Workstations • APK, Mini-lesson, and Guided are taught whole group • Independent practice is completed in whole group or in workstations • Students participate in workstations with standards-based activities that spiral throughout the month. • Stations are organized in plastic tubs and rotations are on a pocket chart • Students remain in station for entire period • Students are pulled from their station as needed and return to their station for the day • Students rotate daily
