Learner Reaction Flag Symbols Rights and Responsibilities Students liked the BrainPop, Jr. video Students believe that anything they want is a right Students enjoyed playing the domino rights and responsibility game Wanted more time to play game • Students enjoyed the lesson • Connected to prior knowledge about the flag • Students created a list of words identifying the symbols of the flag • Flag decorated Great American Book connected information with future lessons

Meeting Objectives Flag Symbols Rights and Responsibilities Lesson met the objectives Difficult for students to identify difference between a right and a responsibility Could turn into a two day lesson Students could identify the difference between a right and a responsibility with 75% accuracy • Lesson met objectives • Students made connections between the symbols on the flags and words descripting those symbols • Students showed knowledge by words written around their flag on their Great American Book

Evaluation From Facilitator Flag Lesson Rights and Responsibilities More difficult concepts Needed two days for the lesson Needed more whole group practice before playing the game The game gave students many opportunities to discuss rights and responsibilities • Very effective lesson • Students were engaged and very interactive • Visual aids helped students connect with lesson material • Students refer to the cover of their book during other lessons

Materials and Technology Flag Symbols Rights and Responsibilities Great Brain Pop, Jr. video to introduce the difference between rights and responsibilities Dominos could be larger Need visuals to represent key vocabulary words • Need a better introductory (hook) video or presentation • Worksheets were appropriate • Could use a web program to document brainstorming session

  6. Environment • Classroom was appropriate for both lessons • Students prefer to work in pairs and small groups • During the game the students had room to spread out
