FSP-401 DNA Fingerprinting !! Course Outline !! DNA Fingerprinting, also termed as DNA Profiling, Genotyping, DNA Typing or Genetic Fingerprinting is one of the most recent advancements in Forensic Science. This technique was discovered by Sir. Alec Jeffrey's in 1984. While going through this network, he noticed that certain sequences of highly variable DNA (known as minisatellites), do not contribute to the functions of genes, and are repeated within genes. Jeffrey's recognized that each individual has a unique pattern of minisatellites (the only exceptions being multiple individuals from a single zygote, such as identical twins). For the extraction of DNA, a sample of cells such as skin, hair, blood, saliva etc. is required.
FSP-402 Forensic Drugs Analysis !! Course Outline !! One of the major and vast disciplines of Forensic Science, with innumerable probabilities to learn, explore and practice is Forensic Drugs Analysis. With the increasing cases of drug abuse among the youth and its unethical use for doping, this subject has become very vital for the investigators, analysts and medical practitioners. A day by day increase in the illegal drug trade because of its growing demand has posed a threat to the society and the community around. Due to a rapid escalation in drink and drive cases for the past few years, police officials all around the world are using Breathalyzer to detect the presence and concentration of alcohol (ethanol) in the blood, commonly termed as Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC).

Forensic Biology & Serology, as the name clarifies is the study related to the examination of bodily/biological fluids (blood, semen, saliva, urine, vaginal discharge etc.) found at a crime scene, in order to be presented before the court of law. Other than the examination of bodily fluids, this subject also includes the determination of species of origin and the grouping of bloodstains. One of the basic principles of Forensic Science is to maintain the integrity of the encountered evidences at the crime scene by maintaining an apt and systematic collection and preservation process, ensuring the point that during the transportation no evidence gets contaminated. Therefore, due to this fact the prime duty of the investigating officer is to emphasis on an appropriate manner of collection and preservation of the fragile evidences.

Ballistics and Firearm Investigation is that discipline of Forensic which deals with the motion of projectile and the path it covers after being fired. Firearm investigation is a specialty of forensic science focusing on the examination of firearms and related subjects; whereas ballistics is the branch of applied physics which deals with the motion of projectile and conditions that govern the motion of projection. This area of study examines the path of a bullet from when it leaves the firearm up until it strikes the target. During investigations in which the use of firearms is suspected, a number of objects may be collected for examination and analysis, including firearms, cartridge cases, bullets, live ammunition, trace materials, and any material damaged by a projectile.
