What is worker engagement and communication? • Worker engagement is the participation by workers in decisions made by those in control of construction activities, in order that risk on site can be managed the most effective ways • Communication of the right information, to the right people at the right time to enable them to make appropriate decisions on health and safety issues relating to construction projects CDM 2007 Worker engagement & communication – Slide 2
What does CDM 2007 require? (1) • For all projects, dutyholders should: • Provide information needed to carry out work without risk • Provide site specific induction • Advise on findings from risk assessment • Explain site rules • Explain what to do if imminent danger • Advise who is responsible for implementing health and safety on site CDM 2007 Worker engagement & communication – Slide 3
What does CDM 2007 require? (2) • Allow for those who: • Cannot read • Cannot understand English • Workers have the duty to report anything that will endanger him or others • Worker safety representatives are entitled to employer funded training • Arrangements for serious danger Reg 8 MHSWR • Communicate to workers what to do CDM 2007 Worker engagement & communication – Slide 4
What does CDM 2007 require? (3) For a notifiable project the PC must: • Make & maintain arrangements to ensure co-operation and consultation between themselves, contractors and workers • To carry out consultation with workers CDM 2007 Worker engagement & communication – Slide 5
