Where worms live… • There are lots of different types of worms, they live in all different places. • Earthworms live just below the surface of the grass. • They live in deep, dark and damp places. • They don’t live in deserts or where there is permanent snow.
Facts about Earthworms…. • They breath through their skin. • They have up to 5 pairs of hearts. • They don’t have any bones. • They eat 1/3 of their own body weight in food everyday. • There are 200 species of earthworms in New Zealand and 4,000 world wide • They don’t have any eyes but they sense how to get around by sensing light. • They can grow up to 35cm • They don’t like the light so they stay underground during the day and come out at night • When it rains they move to the surface so they don’t drown • They live for about 6 years • If you cut an earthworm in half they can regrow the other half back
