MIT inFORM Dynamic Shape Display Royal stewart
inFORM • Developed at MIT in 2013 • Dynamic Physical Affordances and Constraints • inFORM shape display
What is it? • inFORM is a Dynamic Shape Display that can display 3D content physically and allow user to manipulate the content whether it be in person or through a video conference call. • Shape of table with little pins in a grid formation, connected to a computer, that move up and down and can manipulate objects located on the table itself.
How it works • inFORM uses the Kinect to track a users hand movements • The projector displays color on top of each individual pin, allowing each pin to change color. • Actuators connected to the pins by linkages allow the system and each pin to move individually.
Practical applications • Geospatial data • Terrain and architectural modeling • Imaging of CT scans to be viewed in physical 3D • 3D Modelers can view and manipulate 3D objects without having to 3D at a low resolution.
