  18. Personal Statements

  19. Why?

  20. You are an Admissions Tutor What do you want to see? This is the same as an employer, ie preparing a CV

  21. Which Student will you choose?

  22. Personal Statement 1 I like physics, because it is good. Ever since I was a child I wanted to study it and my dad is a physicist too. I have tried hard at maths, even though I don’t really enjoy it. Art is my favourite subject and I like drawing pictures. I am also good on the computer and I did this for my work experience. In my spare time I like socialising with my friends and watching TV. I also have a part-time job at MacDonalds. Which helps me to meet other people. I am planning to take a Gap Year and tour around the country gigging with my friends.

  24. Personal Statement 1 I like physics, because it is good. Ever since I was a child I wanted to study it and my dad is a physicist too.

  25. Personal Statement 2 “What has happened in the past?” and “What is going to happen in the future?” are two questions that have always fascinated me. I am keen to understand how and why things happen in an attempt to answer these questions . Hence, I wish to study Physics at university as I am convinced that it is a subject I will find stimulating and challenging. I am always trying to push my knowledge past the boundaries of the syllabus. I enjoy reading books such as “The Origin of the Universe” by John Barrow and regularly read articles in Scientific American and New Scientist.

  26. My main non-academic interests lie in hiking and camping. These recently culminated in a 6-week expedition to Alaska with BSES Expeditions. Living in such abnormal and harsh conditions has helped teach me to work effectively as a team and has also developed my leadership skills. I have been involved with the training of younger pupils at school for their Duke Of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award and I enjoyed teaching them and encouraging them in a hobby which I personally enjoy. Overall I am a self-motivated person and a diligent student. I feel that I have the logical thinking and mathematical skills to succeed in a Physics degree and I look forward to delving deeper into a subject that is of endless fascination to me.

  32. A bit about myself. Academics Upper 6th University Lower 6th Graduation

  33. Preparation for Career Academics Upper 6th University Lower 6th Graduation

  34. If I recruit on anything, I recruit on attitude you can change most other things in someone. But you cannot change attitude. Only they can.

  35. 3 things for you to consider before choosing University.

  36. University is a LOTdifferent and a LOTharder than A-levels. Contact hours: 6th form 21 hours pw; Business at University 12 hours pw. Quality of teaching is much worse. Only person to push you is yourself. Increased work load, constant deadlines. Referencing. A huge amount of reading and research in order to get the top grades.

  37. Do not go to university for the sake of going to university. • Drop Outs • Under achieving • Other alternatives

  38. Degree = Job • Best Jobs + Degree + work preparation

  39. 1 in every 5, 16-24 year olds are unemployed in the UK, what makes YOU stand out?
