  2. IRON CURTAIN • First established after WWII had ended, in order to separate the European people, from different forms of government. • Was meant to be a military barrier between countries, to cut off outside communication from the non-communist world. http://home.aubg.bg/students/HHP030/

IRON CURTAIN • Stability and restrictions of the curtain was decreased when Stalin died in 1953. • When the Berlin wall was constructed in 1961, the curtain was restored to its former position. • Collapsed in 1989, and was followed by the Soviet Union collapse in 1991. http://home.aubg.bg/students/HHP030/

SOVIET SATELLITE NATIONS • A satellite state is a nation that is economically and politically controlled by a larger nation • Satellite states are usually former countries under major influence from other countries • Random Fact- the reason they were called satellite state’s is because they resemble small things revolving a much larger thing like satellites to earth Satellite States = Win?

SOVIET SATELLITE NATIONS • Used as “Buffer Zones” to prevent invasion of The Soviet Union through Europe- as defense from non-communist powers. • Land and resources were used to benefit the Soviet economy. • Maintained communist regimes until 1989 when communist dictatorships began to collapse. http://www.bookrags.com/wiki/Satellite_state
