What Is NUTV? • NUTV is the name Northwestern University Information Technology (NUIT) has given to its innovative system of delivering expanded television options to the University. • NUIT implemented NUTV in partnership with the Division of Student Affairs in response to student requests for access to expanded television options in individual rooms. • Currently, NUTV includes two "tiers" of service - Basic and Expanded. • Basic – 4 channels • Expanded – Additional 20 channels available in residence halls only
How Does NUTV Work? • NUTV requires: • Technology from Video Furnace to encode video data and store it on a server • A multicast enabled network to transport the video signal from the server to the users computer • Video Furnace client software (downloaded to the user’s computer when NUTV access is requested)
What Are the Requirements for NUTV? • Network • A multicast-enabled switched Ethernet connection on the University network • Computer (to watch either "Basic NUTV" or "Expanded NUTV“) • working network adapter card (NIC) • http://www.tss.northwestern.edu/nutv/helpguide/requirements.html • “Expanded Service” available only on residence hall network • Partnership with Student Affairs • Channels determined by Student Affairs, typically by surveying students in the spring
What Are the Main Support Questions? • Software Updates May Be Required – Latest Version of: • Web browser • video card drivers • Java Virtual Machine (JVM). • Firewall configuration • Allow traffic from 129.105.223.0/25 to destination ports 7000& 7070 • XP • Not Available on VPN/wireless network • Bridged or Multiple Internet Connections • Spyware on Computer
