Youth Teams & Leagues • Age Groups • U9 (9/1/2004 or later) 2/3 • U11 (9/1/2002 or later) 4/5 • U13 (9/1/2000 or later) 6/7 • U15 (9/1/1998 or later) 8 • Leagues • Spring Season –MBSLA Minnesota Boys Scholastic Lacrosse Association • Summer Season –YLM Youth Lacrosse Minnesota • U9 playing Dakota Box at Eagan Arena in Spring

Spring Season • Spring Season (MBSLA) • Practices start in next week • Outdoor Practices will be held 2 -3 times per week • Games will be weekends beginning in April 12 and running through May 17 • Two games per weekend for 8-10 games total • May use Spring season performance and attitude to determine Summer team placement

  4. Summer Season • Summer Season (YLM) • Practices start in early June and the season runs through the end of July • Practices will be held 2 -3 times per week • Games will be weekday evenings only • There will be a State Tournament for U13 and U15 teams that qualify. Dates TBD • U11 and U9 may have a District Jamboree • Additional tournaments may be played based on team interest (weekend games)

  5. Teams • Spring- even teams • Summer U13/U15 must have A&B teams • Player evaluations to be run by Homegrown Lacrosse • Eval Day 1. Sunday April 6 at Savage Dome • Eval Day 2. Sunday April 20 at Falcon

  6. Team Make up • 16 players absolute min per team, 20 is ideal • U11 has 26 • U13 has 31 • U15 has 33 • Lots of debate on how to divide • Best experience for kids

  7. Team Make up U9 • 7 vs 7 for summer • 15 per team is ideal • 17 playing spring box • 6 signed up to play summer

  8. Team Make up U11 • U11 has 27 • Move 4 or 5 up to U13 • One U11 team of 23

  9. Team Make up U13 • U13 has 31 or 35 with U11 players • Two teams of 17/18

  10. Team Make up U15 • U15 has 34 • Two teams of 17/17

  11. Mandatory Gear • Lacrosse Helmet (NOCSAE Approved) • Helmet with a cupped four point chin strap fastened to all four hookups • Hockey helmets are NOT acceptable for any player • Mouthguard • Required for practice and games (game penalty) • Stick • Gloves • Shoulder pads • Arm pads • Athletic supporters and protective cups • Cleats recommended (molded rubber, no metal) • Equipment sources (EVAA, Play it Again, Lavin, Dick’s)

  12. 10 Players on the field • Attack (3) • Must remain in their offensive half of the field • Defense (3) • Must remain in their defensive half of the field (exception) • May use longer defensive sticks at U15 and U13 • Midfield (3) • Able to play on the entire field (Attack and Defense) • Goalie • Special equipment required (Provided by EVAA) • Goalie stick, Chest Protector, Throat Guard, Shin Guards (optional)

  27. Coaching Philosophy • Develop Players – Teach them the game and concentrate on playing the right way. The score and winning will take care of itself. • Play Clean – Rough and physical play will not make you a better player. • Play Smart – Find space and find your teammates. • Play Fast – Move the ball and move your feet.

Emphasis • Developing Fundamental Skills - Passing, Catching, Cradling, Ground Balls, Defense • Team Work – Passing to open teammates, Finding space, Good shots, Good spacing • Play with your body and stick under control • Patience • Become better players • Compete with class, Play the right way

  29. Costs • Registration (now open at www.evaasports.org) • $150 per player per season • US Lacrosse • $25 annual membership fee • Scholarships available • Contact Program Director or EVAA Administrator

  30. Uniforms • $100 Uniform Deposit, returned upon receipt of clean uniform at end of season • 2 Game Jerseys. For games only • 1 practice shirt (new) • 1 Game Short. For games only • Black gym shorts are acceptable alternative
