Youth Lax Girl’s Equipment: Required: • Lacrosse Stick (Crosse) • 35 ½ – 43 ¼ inches long • Plastic, titanium, or aluminum • Head can NOT have a deep pocket • Goggles – Required All practices and games • Mouth guard (colored) – Required All practices and games • Goalie Equipment is provided • Goalie stick, protective pads, chest and throat protector, padded shorts, shin guards, helmet with facemask, throat protector. Optional: • Cleats and Gloves

Youth Lax Girl’s Uniforms: Required: • 2 Jersey’s Home and Away • Skirt (kilt) • Compression Shorts • Returning players can wear last year’s uniform • New player’s to 2011 summer season • New or Used options • Sizes available at Parent’s meeting • Deadline for uniform orders is April 15th • New uniforms will be required for 2012

Youth Girl’s Games & Practices : Game/Practices : • Updated Schedule on the P.L.A.Y website • Game and field locations on MSSLax • Team parent Communication to teams • Come Prepared to Games and Practices • No Jewelry, No Accessories, No Exceptions • Bring both Jerseys • Water Bottle • Weather conditions (under armor, leggings, tall socks, athletic gloves) • Arrive 45 minutes prior to game start • Weather • Severe weather NO play – Game cancellations will be notified by the Team Parent • Home Game Responsibilities • Scorer, Score board, Scorer’s table, timer and time clock • Report scores to MSSLax

8. Rules Specific to Youth 5/6 &7/8 Grade Level • Regulation Stick Pocket • 5/6th Grade- No stick checking • 7/8th Grade- • Modified stick checking-stick is below shoulder level, check is downward direction • No field player’s body or stick can cross the crease-not HS • No jewelry • 4 goal lead rule (US Lacrosse rule), if you lead by 4 goals the other team gets the ball instead of a center draw • 8 goal lead rule (MSSLax rule), "if your team leads by 8 or more points, your players must complete 3 passes before shooting on goal AND the other team gets the ball on the draw • Youth 3 Seconds - Rule: “ No holding the ball for more than 3 seconds when closely guarded and the defense has both hands on her stick and is in position to legally check were checking allowed”

Youth Girl’s Lacrosse Positions 12 Players on the field • Attackers- includes the first home, second home, third home, and two attack wings • first home - skilled with the stick and is relied upon to score • second home - playmaker who must get open to set up scoring opportunities • third home - an all-around player who is key to transitioning from defense to offense • attack wings - often involved in finishing a fast break, often the first to gain possession off a draw • Defenders- includes the point, cover point, third man, center, defense wings, and • Goalkeeperpoint - marks the first home. Decision-making, positioning, and shot blocking are key skills. • cover point - usually the best one-on-one defender who relies on speed and footwork to mark the second home. The • Third man - primary duty is disturbing the attack in the midfield, looks to intercept passes and quickly pick up an open attacker • center - a pivotal player in transition from defense to offense, also controls the draw. • Defense wings - matches the speed and endurance of the attack wings to gain possession of the ball • Goalkeeper - attempts to save each shot with her stick, but can also use any body part to keep the ball out of the goal

Youth Girl’s Lacrosse Helpful Terms • Goal Circle:The circle around the goal, no player's stick or body may "break" the cylinder of the goal circle. • Sphere:An imaginary area which surrounds a player's head. No stick checks toward the head are allowed to break the sphere. • Eight-Meter Arcs:A semi-circular area in front of the goal used for the administration of major fouls. A defender may not remain in this area for more than three seconds unless she is within a stick's length of her opponent. • Crosse Checking:Controlled stick-to-stick contact in an attempt to dislodge the ball from the opponent. • Restraining line: Divides area where a maximum of seven offensive players and eight defensive players (including the goalkeeper) are allowed; otherwise, a team foul is called.

Card • Dangerous Shot- at goalie • Crosse to body • If a player commits a minor foul, she is placed 4 meters away from where the foul was committed, and play resumes. • The penalty for a major foul is called a "free position." If a girl commits a major foul, she is placed 4 meters behind the player she fouled, who is allowed to take a free position.

13. New Rule Changes for 2011 • Green Card=Delay of game • Yellow Card= 3 minute without substitution • 2 Yellow Cards=game suspension & sit out next game • Red Card= Immediate suspension from game, ineligible for next 2 games • Team gets a 3rd card= Team plays short for remainder and additional player will be removed for each subsequent card issued

14. 3/4 Grade Level A proposed 3rd/4th grade league during the summer of 2011: • Following the USLacrosse Level C Rules • LEVEL C SPECIFICS • 7 field players, use of a goal keeper is optional.  • Field size: 50 yds. x 25 yds. is recommended.  • 8m arc, no 12m fan, no restraining line, center line (no circle).  • Youth sticks (mesh allowed) or regular women’s crosse, modified pocket.  • No checking.  • 20-minute halves (max.), running time.  • May not shoot from any free position, unless using a goalkeeper or modifiedgoal opening.
