  7. NAACP National Association for the Advancement of Colored People • Founded in 1909 • It is an interracial organization • Upper-middle class African Americans support • Main Focus: Challenging the Laws, worked to secure full legal equality

  8. SCLC Southern Christian Leadership Conference • Founded in 1957 • The South’s New Voice • Martin Luther King Jr. became a National figure • Main Focus: Preached and Practiced Non-Violent Protest

  9. CORE Congress of Racial Equality • Founded in 1942 • Both African American and white members • Played a major role in the big urban cities • Main Focus: Bring about change through peaceful confrontation
