Course Leveling Expectations – English HP: • Rigorous and challenging texts are included in the curriculum – including a Shakespearean Play. • The writing program is demanding and designed to enhance already well-established writing skills. • Teachers move at an accelerated pace and expect students to complete reading and writing assignments independently. Honors: • The writing program is demanding and designed to develop and strengthen student writing in a variety of modes. • Teachers move at an accelerated pace and expect students to complete reading assignments independently.
Course Selection Process Your child’s 6th grade elementary teacher will: • Place the levels on the course selection cards for: • English 7 • Math 7 or Algebra 1(placement based on the math rubric) • World Cultures and Geography • Life Science If you have any questions pertaining to your child’s levels, please contact your elementary school’s teacher or guidance counselor. Course Selection Timeline • February 3-12: • Algebra prognosis testing currently being administered in the elementary schools. • February 5: • WELCOME to Penndale! • Course Selection Night • February 20: • Course selection cards completed and returned in alphabetical order to Middle Schools. • February 27: • Letters are sent to parents regarding H and HP choice. • March 6: • Letters are due from parents with H and HP choice indicated.
Course Selection Timeline • March 18: • Verification letters to elementary schools; mailed with 2nd Trimester report cards March 28. • April 7: • Verification sheets returned to Middle Schools • if changes are needed • May 26: • 6th Grade students tour Penndale • June 12: • Final deadline for students and/or parents initiated requests for course changes.
