  1. Influence of wood industry in the socio-economic development of kunnathunadtaluk

  2. Objective of the study • To study the effect of wood industry in the economic stability of the region • Comparing the present social situation of the region to the pre-wood industry period • To study the recently developed environmental problems • Providing cost effective solutions for the recent issue

  3. Introduction The economic stability of Perumbavoor is mainly focused on the development of wood industry. By the onset of the present issues in the region; it will not only effect the economy but also hamper the social development which the region is holding. As an organization looking for the balanced growth of the society, we have conducted this study for the welfare of the region.

  4. Group of SSI in region Industrial environment Fixed income Social development

  5. social development LIFE & BETTER LIVING EDUCATION Sense of belonging HEALTH Development of thoughts Usual growth Energetic society

  6. EDUCATION no. of institutes quality of thoughts matching up with external society DEVLEPMENT OF THOUGHTS USUAL GROWTH

  7. DEVELOPMENT OF THOUGHTS • Technical thoughts • New horizons • Customized Technology development

  8. EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY HEALTH& BETTER LIVING DEVLOPED SOCIETY THOUGHTS LIFESTYLE PRODUCTS SOURCES OF EARNING Cash flow CONSUMER SOCIETY

  9. Big questions. . . . . . . . MAN POWER POLLUTION TECHNICAL SUPPORT MARKET STANDARDIZATION RULES& REGULATIONS PERMENANT SOLUTION…

  10. pollution • AIR • WATER • NOISE • BIO DEGRADABLE WASTE • OVER CROWDING

  11. Air pollution

  12. AIR POLLUTION DUST COLLECTOR DUST COLLECTOR AIR PURIFIER WATER SCRUBBER ELECTRON PRECIPITATOR WATER SCRUBBER ELECTRON PRECIPITATOR

  13. Air pollution • Dust collector • Electron precipitator • Water scrubber • Air purifier

  14. Reaction or urea formaldehyde with air..(on combustion) • Basically urea formaldehyde resin is a thermo setting plastic..on burning it will bonds with core veneer .. • Further it will fuses ,and forms a cross-linked polymer. • No harmful chemical reactions • No evaporation/formalin evolution • With out the presence of suitable catalyst it cant produce formalin.

  15. State PCB analyzed that the level of formaldehyde content in the air is .0304 PPM , where allowable amount is 1PPM. • On conversion it is 45.6µg/Kg where the allowable amount is 1500µg/Kg

  16. COMPARISON WITH BOILERES USED IN OTHER INDUSTRIES

  17. Use of LSFO boiler • Low sulphour fuel oil • one LSFO boiler= 100 steam boiler (wood as fuel)

  18. Water pollution

  19. WATER POLLUTION EFFLUENT TREATMENT PLANT(ETP)

  20. Reaction of urea formaldehyde with water • Basically urea formaldehyde is a water soluble product… • So we can treat the waste water containing urea formaldehyde by using reverse osmosis based ETP.

  21. Well water test reports by state PCB, says that the amount of formaldehyde in the adjacent wells of plywood units are BDL. • BDL- below detection level

  22. Noise pollution

  23. Already proved that sound emitted from the plywood industry is less than legally approved decibel level.. • But suitable methods/appropriate documents should be there at plant tp convince the authorities…

  24. Bio degradable waste

  25. BIODEGRADABLE WASTE EFFECTIVE IMPLEMENTATION OF BIO GAS PLANT

  26. Over crowding

  27. Setting up of labor camps • Transportation systems • Methods to ensure hygiene • Proper facilities for health/medical • Participation of LSGD

  28. Why call for a change. . . • Most sensitive issue. .. . • Mass support from academic community, middle class, media. . .. . • Green politics • Rules &regulations

  29. How to overcome these crisis. . . • Effective implementation of all these protective measures with in a stipulated time • Thorough awareness among the residents and natives • Formation of effective monitoring group/technical cell/grievance cell • Consortium/cluster

  30. Consortium/cluster • Total management • Product management • Process management • Marketing management • Legal issues • Health,safety,environment

  31. Scope of consortium/cluster • Market • Quality improvement • Branding • Technical support • Effective interaction with public, govt. and media • Effective handling of Legal issues • Competent persons as correspondents.

  32. Urgent requirement • Study about consortium • Implementation of environmental protective measures • Suitable methods for technology developments • Competent persons as correspondents. • Negotiable mode of operation • Persuasion and appeal

  33. Comparison with coir industry of Alleppey Regional influences Unskilled labor Home based units Huge market Arrival of MNC (william goodacre, aspinwall, wolcart, PS lessley)

  34. small scale income Regional owners(small scale) Education Development studies(small extent) Importing of thoughts Survival of MNC Regional owners (Karan-good acre, ncj, dc mills, extraweaves)

  35. Conclusion • Proved that the arguments of environmental activists are baseless. • Also proved that the effective solutions are available for environmental related problems. *************
