  10. What’s the deal with Zombies? • There are all kinds of emergencies out there that we can prepare for. Take a zombie apocalypse for example. You may laugh now, but when it happens you’ll be happy you joined us, and hey, maybe you’ll even learn a thing or two about how to prepare for a real emergency.

  11. A recent national poll by Adelphi University Center for Health Innovation  surveyed 1,000 Americans about their personal preparedness behaviors and the results show that we’re not ready: • More than half of Americans have not prepared copies of crucial documents • 48% of Americans lack emergency supplies for use in the event of a disaster

  12. 42% of cell phone owners do not know all their immediate family members phone numbers • More than half of parents do not have a designated meeting place in case of a disaster

  13. Center for Disease Control: • "If you are equipped to deal with a zombie apocalypse you will be prepared for a hurricane, pandemic, earthquake, or terrorist attack.“ • So, we are going to • make a kit • make a plan • and be prepared!

  14. Starting in November, we spend some time during each meeting discussing what is needed in our “disaster kit” • HOSA members can build kit at home and submit them for competition (Feb 2013)– winner will receive cash prize

  15. Want to win $25? • Poster contest - Design and create a poster illustrating ways to be prepared for emergencies. Examples of preparedness tips include: assembling a kit, creating a family plan, knowing evacuation routes, and knowing where to get information. Winners can be based on originality, amount of information, and impact. • Posters must be presented at meeting in November • Winner will be selected by panel of teachers
