Analysis Practice: imagery Think hard about what your chosen pictures say about you. Think about your Facebook profile and album pictures. Think about your senior pictures, especially the yearbook one—you only get one.
Rob Dornsife, Ph.D, Creighton U • His three categories for Facebook profile pictures: • (1) “I am worldly.” • (2) “I belong.” • (3) “I am wild” or “I am fun.” • Could apply to senior pictures, too—especially yearbook-selected images.
“I am wild” or “I am fun” • “This third one is manifested in the exaggerated expressions and poses—the open mouth with the hands in the air for guys, for example—it says ‘I am wild.’ • Girls will blow kisses or take angle shots, from their own hands, for example.
Dornsife’s Ideas: “I am wild/fun.” • “Also—is this ‘wildness’ an attempt to cover the insecurities associated with having your picture taken? Why? What is is so insecure about having your picture taken? (It is external—it may be different than I think I am ‘from the inside’—so I ‘hide’ behind a pose—a disguise—to deflect and mask.”
Should there be another category? • “I am counterculture or rebellious.” • I asked him about this one, which I thought of. He said this should fit into “I am worldly.”
