Statistics • One in four students report being bullied during the school year. • The reasons for being bullied reported most often by students included looks (55%), and body shape (37%). • More than 75% of individuals with eating disorders admit that bullying was one cause of their illness. • Students who bully others, are bullied, or witness bullying are more likely to report high levels of suicide-related behavior than students who report no involvement in bullying.

  4. Bullying shows signs… • Unexplained injuries • Frequent headaches/stomach aches • Faking illness to stay home from school/frequent skipping of school • Difficulty sleeping • Changes in eating habits- skipping meals or binge eating (bullying can play a role in the development of an eating disorder) • Declining performance in school • Sudden loss of friends/avoidance of social events • Decreased self-esteem • Self-destructive behavior

Ways to Respect Others Accept Others’ Differences • Everybody is different and unique on the inside and out, accept these differences rather than judging them Listen • Respect someone’s opinions by listening to them • Hear someone out if they need to voice a concern Respect Boundaries • Don’t pressure someone to do something they aren’t comfortable doing • When someone says “no”, be accepting of their decision

Ways to Respect Yourself Be Forgiving • Forgive yourself for mistakes in the past and move forward • Forgive others that have hurt you in order to let go of the pain and open yourself up to positivity Don’t Settle • Know what you deserve, and don’t settle for less • Don’t allow others to treat you poorly or unfairly Have a Supportive Circle of Friends • Surround yourself with people who support you and respect you • Anybody that bullies you or others is not a supportive friend
