Rules of Softball • Every softball team has to have at least 10 players, but some leagues do permit teams to play with as few as 8. • You must have a catcher, pitcher, 1st baseman, 2nd baseman, shortstop, 3rd baseman, right fielder, left fielder, & center fielder. • Only players & certified coaches are allowed on the field arena. • Games will be 7 innings. • No innings start after 7:45pm (unless field is under lights)
More rules of Softball • If a catcher is a base runner and there are two outs, a courtesy runner may be used. (Same for pitcher) • Pitchers will deliver the ball in accordance with fast pitch regulations. • A ball hit on the ground and rolling foul, then fair, is considered to play if no one has touched it.
Routines of softball • Workouts/Exercise • Throw with a partner to get loose • 15-20 swings • Pitching warm ups • Hitting warm ups • Pop flies/ground balls
History of Softball • Softball developed as a younger version of baseball. • Softball was first introduced on Thanksgiving Day in 1887 at a Harvard-Yale football game. • By 1889 a winter league was formed. • Boating, Boxing, & football each played a role in softball. • It began in Chicago.
