God uses unexpected people. God chooses men differently. God looks on the inward part of man, which is different from man. David is a perfect example. Samuel, Jesse, Saul and Goliath all doubted, but God was sure that David could be used. Other Examples from Scripture • 1 Samuel 16:7 • 1 Samuel 16:11-13 • 1 Samuel 17:33, 42-44 • Exodus 3 • 1 Kings 19-21 • 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 • Moses • Elisha • The Apostles • Today: • God doesn’t have to use the richest, smartest, or most influential people. He can use anyone – even those who are unexpected. • God can use me? • July 14th, 2013
God uses unskilled people. The apostles were not overly skilled. “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.” Some of our excuses: • Acts 4:13 • 2 Peter 3:18 • 2 Timothy 2:15 • Exodus 4:10-17 • 1 Corinthians 2:1-4 • 1 Corinthians 4:20 • 1 Timothy 1:12-17 • I don’t know enough. • I cannot speak well. • I’ve done a lot of bad things in my past. • Today: • If you think that you must have rare skills or abilities to be used by God, you’re wrong. It’s not our skills that need glorification, it is God that needs to be glorified! • God can use me? • July 14th, 2013
God uses uncertain people. Sometimes we are not sure… Our hesitancy typically stems from fear. We may fear failure or ridicule. We must be willing to overcome our fears: • 1 Corinthians 3:6 • Matthew 25:14-30 • Matthew 25:21 • Results are not our objective. Action is what God expects. • Ridicule on this earth will be short lived. • God can use me? • July 14th, 2013
