ALCOHOL The Effects on the Individual and the Community • What is Alcohol? • Alcohol is a drug • Belongs to a group called depressants • Depressants slow down the CNS • Other depressants ; Marijuana and Tranquilizers • Alcohol is also known as ethyl alcohol or ethynol • By product of fermentation ; sugar plus yeast • Ref : Lesson Plans pg 21. ALCOHOL The Effects on the Individual and the Community • Class Activity 1 : Alcohol as part of our culture • We are going to ask the students to share a childhood memory relating to alcohol or an event where they saw people drinking. • Point out facts like • Whether they were drinkers or not • Expectations about drinking • The affects to the drinker and/or their friends • What are your personal opinions or knowledge you may have on alcohol • In this activity we DO NOT under any circumstances use names or places, please speak in the third person when talking to your fellow students
