Injury Pattern Among Rescue Workers at WTC Site †During first 2 weeks at WTC site, 19% of firefighters reported not using a respirator; 50% reported using a respirator but only rarely. MMWR September 11, 2002; 51:1-20.
Long-term Effects of WTC incident • NYFD 1-year follow-up • Decreased lung function equal to 12 years of aging-related decline • Increased symptoms of cough, wheeze, airway reactivity in response workers, residents • 2-fold increase in infants small-for-gestational- age • Depression, PTSD
