  1. Stop Pathogens From Spreading • Ways to defend yourself from pathogens include: • Good personal hygiene, or cleanliness. • Getting enough physical activity. • Getting enough rest or sleep. • Keeping the environment clean.

Protecting Yourself • Avoid close contact with people who are ill. • Especially during the contagious period. • Do not share eating utensils, dishes, glasses, bottles or cans. • Wash your hands often • After you have been around a sick person. • Before and after handling food. • After using the bathroom.

Protecting Yourself • After playing with a pet. • After handling garbage. • After touching any other obvious source of germs. • Hand washing tips. • Always wash before handling or eating food. • Wash with hot, soapy water. • Carry a small bottle of waterless hand sanitizer if you are in an area where you don’t have access to soap and water. • Wash hands for at least 15 sec. with soap, rinse well and dry hands.

Protecting Yourself • Keep you hands away from your mouth, nose and eyes. • Take proper precautions against known factors that may cause disease, such as exposure to ticks. • Follow safe practices in handling, preparing, and storing food to avoid food borne illness and other diseases. • Simple actions such as wiping counters and tables with warm soapy water and disposing of garbage properly.

Protect Others • If you are sick, stay home during contagious period. • Avoid close contact with other people and wash hands frequently. • Cover your mouth and nose when you cough and sneeze and turn away from others. • Use tissues and dispose of them properly. • Cough or sneeze into the crook of your elbow. • Wash hands ASAP
